PRESS RELEASE
Key Move for Quality Champions

Wales Quality Centre, the body which helps Welsh businesses to boost performance and raise the standard of their products and services, is moving to the flagship Waterton Centre at Bridgend.

It is the organisation’s first move since its establishment in 1984 and, says chief executive David Phillips, it marks the start of a new phase in the body’s development.

The Bridgend complex, developed on part of the Ford engine plant, is already home to several key industry organisations including the Engineering Employers Federation, the Welsh Automotive Forum and the Aerospace Wales, DNA Wales and SEMTA the Sector Skills Council for science, engineering and manufacturing.

Said Mr Phillips: “Waterton not only gives us additional hi-tech facilities, particularly for training courses, but it has become a hub for many dynamic organisations with whom we aim to build closer working relationships in order to help Welsh industry achieve world-class standards"

“Innovative partnerships are the way forward for Wales and Wales Quality Centre aims to be at the heart of that, contributing our expertise and learning from others. When we were invited to move to Waterton it made perfect sense because being physically close to key partners will certainly help in forging the necessary links,” he added.

The Quality Centre, which has a 10-strong team, moves into its new base at the end of July after vacating the QED Centre at Treforest near Cardiff.

The Centre runs a wide range of business improvement activity for Welsh businesses including the implementation of the EFQM Excellence Model, the Wales Quality Awards and the Inside Welsh industry Programme. The body is a registered charity owned by its 200 member companies.

Phil Catherwood, director of the Waterton Centre welcomed the arrival of Wales Quality Centre; “Collaboration is very important in Wales and I’m very encouraged by the emergence of this cluster of strategic bodies whose missions are all aimed at making Welsh business stronger and more competitive.”
